When I ask NClone to search for duplicates (Exact content etc) it seems to start OK but then it hangs at - "Comparing 1999 of 5168 with file size of 79.10Kb - 0:22:28 left. That was about 4 hours ago and it has not changed since. I am running Vista Home Premium SP2 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop with 2gb RAM and 60gb HD (local) and 1TB external Western Digital My Book Pro attached. My files are on the external drive. I am running Version 4.1.35.0 No Clone Enterprise Edition. Any suggestions please?    Report

04-03-2010, 11:44 aterren Joined on 04-03-2010 Posts 6 Re: Hanging When Comparing I am having the same problem on windows 7 and I am only trying to find matches on file name, extension, and size.  I have been comparing 2099 of 3827 for an hour.  The application's usefulness is clearly limited when it does not return a result.  Pressing cancel does not seem to cancel the compare either. Other details: The application is running 15-17 threads and consuming 12 to 16% of a Core i7 processor. The comparison is between 3 folders on one drive and the entirety of another drive.  3 folders - 78k files, 68GB of disk space 1 drive - 84k files, 140GB disk space Comparison: Files greater than 250kb File name match File extension match File size match    Report

04-03-2010, 12:56 aterren Joined on 04-03-2010 Posts 6 Re: Hanging When Comparing I did a bit more testing which may help resolve this bug.  First column is minimum size, second is number of files evaluated for duplicate as reported in the status bar, and third column is results.   Seems failure is triggered when the comparison set is ~2100 files in size (2084 works, 2102 fails = window size is 18 files),  If I have time later I'll try to narrow this window a bit. Thanks This is almost certainly a bug that will need to be fixed by the developers.  The workaround I have used is to limit my search by file size starting with large files.  This has been a but of a pain, but workable.    Report

So, I suggest waiting more time and using the lastest version.    Report

04-20-2010, 22:02 aterren Joined on 04-03-2010 Posts 6 Re: Hanging When Comparing Ian, These were separate test cases.  In each case the number of file compared *stopped* increasing.  So, NoClone was *not* working. The file size noted above corresponds to the Min file size for NoClone to compare and this was used to alter the number of files that needed to be compared. As a side note, I have been involved in various aspects of software development, including testing, for 20 years.   This smells like a bug.      Report
