Noclone home exits without warning

I downloaded the home version 4.1.35.0 two days ago and purchased a license. The licensed version exits suddenly and without warning or error message after several minutes of interactive use. (It builds a file list properly, and I can leave it for several hours without exiting, but as soon as I start to click entries, or use the preview pane it's at risk of exiting.)
I've rebooted and uninstalled/installed without success - the behavior persists. In retrospect, even before licensing the program would randomly pop up a "do you want to register this product" message -and there was no way to leave the popup without exiting the program. It's almost as if the licensing blocked the popup, but retained the immediate exit. (That's just a guess).
XP Media Center edition, SP 2, 3gb RAM. Thanks for your help
